A retirement reception was held for Mrs. Ann Hardy on Tuesday, June 7th, honoring her 15 years of dedication to Duplin County Schools and 35 total years in education.

Mrs. Hardy joined the Duplin County Schools family in August of 2007 as Assistant Principal at BF Grady and served in that capacity for approximately two and half years before being named the Interim Principal in November of 2010. She then led Warsaw Elementary for four years and during this time was awarded Duplin County Schools Principal of the Year in 2014. Finally, Mrs. Hardy has been “Wild about Leading Learning” at North Duplin Elementary for the last seven years.

During the time of food and fellowship, heartfelt words of appreciation and well wishes were shared by many. Board Chairman Mr. Brent Davis spoke from a board perspective as well as a parent perspective. He spoke of her work ethic, wisdom, and love for children. NDE Assistant Principal Kelsey Nunn followed with a mixture of lighthearted anecdotes and sincere gratitude for the opportunity to begin her administrative career under such wise tutelage. Several other colleagues shared as well with the resounding theme being Mrs. Hardy’s availability for collaboration and advice and her uncanny ability to cut to the heart of complicated issues and make decisions that always kept teachers and especially students at the forefront.

Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan shared his appreciation as well for Mrs. Hardy’s leadership and willingness to champion and implement district initiatives with innovation and fidelity.  Finally, the guest of honor had the opportunity to speak. She stated that while she knew it was her time to go, she would sorely miss the work that she has devoted so many years to and the people that she considers family.  

On behalf of the entire DCS family, Board of Education, and Dr. Obasohan, congratulations to Mrs. Ann Hardy on her retirement and best wishes for her next adventures!
