You know there are those people who as soon as it becomes October and the air gets crisp, it is pumpkin everything. The Sisters are some of those people (me mostly.. hi, Quinn here). Pumpkin is more than just a basic fall necessity; it is a vegetable that has a lovable, natural warmth and sweetness. Its orange color brings instant happiness, and even its seeds are yummy when roasted & salted. Pumpkins = friends.

Baking is something that I have a love for and Paten doesn’t share that exact same love (she has grilling – not my personal favorite). I have a pretty distinguished sweet tooth, which has helped me learn the love of baking. We have a love/hate relationship. Baking is something that I always did with my Grandma Pate – we always made sugar cookies at Christmas. Because she instilled that love in me, every time I made these cupcakes before she and our Granddaddy passed away, I would reserve a little batter to make her and Granddaddy a little pumpkin loaf to have with their coffee in the morning. She would cut a little sliver for her and one for Granddaddy. I can smell their coffee brewing now.

The Soul-Full Sisters are just sisters who really love food. Both sisters, Quinn Carlton Bostic + Paten Carlton, are Duplin County natives, rooted in Raleigh, North Carolina. For these two, it all started with them watching, listening, and tasting. They were brought up with the divine instinct that food must be appreciated in its most simplistic form. The dishes they loved the most were the ones with the shortest ingredient list you’d ever seen. They were taught to appreciate fresh food in season. Their essence and style of cooking has been planted like a seed within them by the women and generations before them. Their layers of love and flavor are reflected in the food they prepare.
