Soul-Full Sisters: Spaghetti and Meatballs

Soul-Full Sisters: Spaghetti and Meatballs

Out of all things fall, Quinn and I look forward to recipe development. Most of the recipes we share are inspired by loved ones no longer with us. Though not visible, they are very much alive in our hearts and constantly finding a way into our kitchens. This recipe specifically, is in memory of our Aunt Vena Mae – our Grandmother Carlton’s first cousin.  She wasn’t just a good cook, she was a great cook – with an unique culinary perspective. She traveled the world with her beloved Robert (Uncle Robert), but she was raised and rooted in the South. Her meals were memorable, her presence was memorable.  She was the Julia Child of muses that sparked our interest in cooking at an early age.

One Halloween night, we stopped by to see her.  My family was returning home from my volleyball game and I was starving – per usual. Aunt Vena Mae made sure I didn’t leave hungry. That evening, I went home with a big ole bowl of homemade spaghetti and meatballs in a Cool Whip container. After that night, we never let a Halloween night go by without homemade spaghetti and meatballs.

When comfort is calling, nothing tastes better than a bowl of Sketti. This is just our soul-full version.
