New mayor says Wallace poised for growth

After serving on the Wallace Town Council for six years, Jason Wells successfully ran for the mayoral seat. The Wallace Rose-Hill graduate is supported by his wife of 19 years and their two children.

“I was curious what influenced businesses to come to our town and also wondered what role local government could play in bringing desired businesses and employer groups to the area,” said Wells. “Thus I ran for town council and served on the town council for 6 years prior to becoming Mayor.”

In his first 30 days, he’ll work on building relationships and to schedule meetings with members of the business community. “My plan has been to meet with the town manager along with department heads to get a better understanding of the challenges they face on a day to day basis,” said Wells. “I, along with the town council have identified the top projects we are working on and are developing a game plan to accelerate some of these key projects.”

Wallace has a regional water and wastewater treatment plant with additional capacity allowing for new homes and industry to come to the area. It also has access to I-40 with 3 access ramps to get to Wilmington, the area beaches, or the state port in under an hour.

These are all factors families or industries consider when looking to move to an area. “Wallace is a community poised for growth,” said Wells. “We have all the things in place needed to be a destination community in Southeastern NC.”

With new homes being built, and new businesses coming to town, Wells sees opportunity for current businesses to grow. “When I think about the future of Wallace, I think about living in a community that has everything one may need, while at the same time holding on to the small town values that we all hold so dear today,” said Wells.
