In order to meet the increasing demand for top-quality teachers and to enhance the diversity of the teaching population of Duplin County Schools, the Duplin County Board of Education established the Grow Your Own: Duplin County Minority Teachers Scholarship – Loan. The scholarship provides up to five graduating seniors who enroll in a community college or university with an intended major in teacher education a scholarship in the amount of $5,000.00 per year, for a maximum of four years. In return and upon graduation from college, the recipients of the scholarship must agree to teach in Duplin County Schools for four years.

Mr. Daren Tyndall, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, recognized the 2022 recipients at Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting.
